Yeah, thats us. Lots of pride, the odd bit of passion - but not much in the way of success, to be honest.
THE CHARLTON ATHLETIC ROLL OF HONOUR
1947: We won the FA Cup. UP THE ADDICKS!
1990: We nearly won a seat on the local council. YAY!
One trophy, and nearly one seat on the chuffing council - in more than a hundred years. Is it any wonder that we are all constantly in and out of therapy?
Our Man In The Know argues the case for a player he believes has had a rough deal.
'.....and on the bench for Charlton, number twenty-five, Darren Randolph, number nine, Leon McKenzie,' is a familiar pre-match announcement from Dave Lockwood which will no doubt be repeated on Saturday.
It is patently obvious that Parkinson has some sort of problem with Randolph but is Leon McKenzie now in the same category?
The manager repeatedly said Leon would have a big part to play in the second half of the season, once he was fully fit. McKenzie has been on the bench for the last 14 matches, a sequence that stetches back to the last time we played Stockport on 12 December. To be pedantic, the season will enter its final quarter when the referee starts the second half on Saturday. A McKenzie start is now long overdue.
A clever player who cost Coventry over £1m when they bought him from Norwich, McKenzie is closest in style to Deon Burton at The Valley. He had netted 92 goals in 332 League games at the end of last season.
Deon Burton has been playing with a hernia for most of the season, Akpo Sodje had hamstring problems when he arrived and Mooney has been uninspiring since his return to the team.
Yet still McKenzie can't get a start. Even Chris Dickson, deemed surplus to requirements by Parkinson, got to start at Brentford during his brief return to The Valley.
What has Leon got to do? If we accept that the manager wants a big man up front then Mooney would be the one to make way for McKenzie. Has the Irishman really done enough to keep Leon on the bench?
Perhaps Burton will be fit enough to return on Saturday but with Stockport not being the strongest of visitors, surely it would make sense to let Deon have another week's rest and give a full debut to McKenzie?
Unless of course, there is something we are not aware of....
